Somebody earned this in the 1902 to 1903 season, and it still says so. This Edwardian sterling silver fob medal is built around a raised shield hand-engraved "Junr League 1902-3," framed by pierced scrollwork, a crossed ribbon crest at the top, carved leaf columns on each side, and a banner across the base. It hangs from its original heavy split ring, made to sit on a pocket watch chain back when every league winner wore their prize across the waistcoat.
Fob medals like this were the trophies of their day, cut and engraved for local football, cricket, and athletics leagues across England. This one makes a striking pendant now, with real heft at 9.5 grams and about 1¼ by 1 inch across. It comes with a cord necklace in the color of your choice.
Fully hallmarked on the reverse: H.B for the Bourne workshop of Birmingham, the Birmingham anchor, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter c for 1902. Also stamped Rd 289344, a British registered design number from 1896. In good antique condition, with wear and patina consistent with its age, and a crisp, readable engraving.
