Jeronimo Fuentes Taxco Sterling Silver Fly Brooch The One With Translucent Guilloche Wings and a PhD in Enamel

Jeronimo Fuentes is one of the most important names in Mexican silver enameling, and this fly brooch shows exactly why. Fuentes served as director of the enamel workshop at Margot de Taxco beginning in 1953, the workshop credited with developing the champlevé enameling technique that defined mid century Taxco jewelry. When Margot de Taxco eventually closed, Fuentes continued working independently, reportedly retaining many of the original molds and carrying forward the same exacting standards.

This fly is a masterclass in that tradition. The wings are translucent pale blue guilloche enamel, that distinctive engine-turned technique that creates depth and shimmer from underneath the glass. The body is fully enameled in iridescent golds, greens, oranges, and black, the kind of color complexity that requires multiple firings and a steady hand. The compound eye is rendered entirely in enamel, no shortcuts. It is a sophisticated subject handled with complete technical confidence.

Hallmarked with the conjoined JF maker mark, Sterling, Made in Mexico, and 925. Estate excellent condition with enamel fully intact and pin back working smoothly.
