Every shell should come with a pearl. This vintage pendant is a scallop shell carved from pale icy green jade, with deep radiating ribs, a scalloped edge and the little hinge "ears" at the top, cut so thin the light glows through it. A single lustrous white pearl hangs from a fine 14K gold chain inside the shell, so it sways like it just washed in with the tide.
The jade is capped with a 14K yellow gold bail stamped 585, and the piece was made in Hong Kong, where carvers turned out some of the finest jade work of the twentieth century. It's an elegant take on mermaid life, delicate enough for every day and pretty enough for a wedding or anniversary.
Very good vintage condition. The pearl has good luster, and the jade is free of chips.
