Chai means life, and this one has plenty of it. The Hebrew letters chet and yud are cut from copper and fired in a glossy sky blue enamel, with a millefiori glass cane set at the top showing a red and black starburst. The copper edges peek through around the outline, which is part of the charm of hand-enameled pieces from this era.
Originally made as one of a pair of earrings, it has been converted to a pendant and hangs from a brass jump ring. It is light, cheerful, and easy to wear on a cord or chain, and a meaningful gift for a bat mitzvah, bar mitzvah, or anyone who collects Judaica.
Enamel on copper. In good vintage condition, with light wear at the copper edges and small dark flecks in the enamel typical of kiln-fired work.
