Seven red flames, one cobalt menorah, and a promise of protection painted by hand on mother of pearl. The menorah's branches are rendered in rich blue with fine white stitching, and the base rests on a block of painted brickwork. The four-letter Hebrew name of God crowns the top, and the words b'tzel Shaddai, "in the shadow of the Almighty," from Psalm 91, flank the stem. That verse has been a traditional protective inscription on Jewish amulets for centuries.
The painting style matches the Persian tradition of decorating shell by hand, and the mother of pearl ground flashes pink and gold behind the design. At about 2 inches tall and 1 3/8 inches wide, it's a meaningful piece for a collector of Judaica amulets or a thoughtful gift for someone marking a new beginning.
Vintage condition, with the hand painting bright and intact. Hangs from a metal jump ring at the top.
