A sterling silver cat face perched atop a gold-toned brass horseshoe — two good luck symbols in one piece, and whoever designed this had a sense of humor about it. The cat is rendered in brushed sterling with black enamel eyes and engraved whisker detail, cool and composed as cats tend to be. The horseshoe below it is warm polished brass, the contrast between the two metals giving the piece a graphic quality that photographs beautifully and wears even better.
Marked MEX925 and TH129 on the back, placing it squarely in Taxco post-1979, made by a silversmith registered under the letter H. Substantial at 11.5 grams and 2 inches tall. This is a piece for cat people who also happen to appreciate good design.
Condition: Estate excellent. Pin mechanism works smoothly and closes securely. Both metals intact with natural patina.
