Clean, confident, and completely Taxco. This sterling silver sauropod is the kind of figural piece the Taxco silversmiths did better than anyone, a simple bold silhouette cut from solid sterling with a florentine textured body surface and a tiny punched eye that gives the creature an unexpectedly expressive raised eyebrow. The design is uncluttered and sure of itself, the long neck arcing up and the tail sweeping back across nearly two and a half inches of sterling silver. Stamped MEXICO TC66 on the reverse, indicating a registered Taxco workshop, post 1979 government registration system. The specific maker behind TC66 has not been publicly documented, which is the case for the majority of Taxco's thousands of registered smiths.
